Always a friendly voice at the end of the phone...

Deafblind UK provides a unique and free information and advice line service. An operator is at the end of the phone to give support and information to anyone who has a query including family members, healthcare professionals and the general public.

The operators, who are specially trained and are mainly volunteers are able to speak to members who use a variety of adapted equipment to access telecommunication systems. Deafblind UK's members contact the information and advice line when they have an enquiry, or would like support or advocacy. For many people the information and advice line is a vital lifeline.

Operators also welcome new members of Deafblind UK with a call to ensure that they know about the information and advice line and what it can offer them.

Here are some of the comments made by Deafblind UK's members about the information and advice line:

"It's good to talk to someone who understands deafblind people. I regard you as a real friend. You have helped me to stay more positive because being lonely can be very depressing."

Refreshable Braille Display"I am so glad someone is there to give us a bit of information when we need it."

"I find the line very helpful, it makes me feel more confident and relaxed - I wish I had known about it two years ago. I remember how depressed and frightened I was, alone in a big house. Now I don't feel afraid to be alone as I can ring you."
