Membership of Deafblind UK is open to people with a combined sight and hearing loss and everybody who joins has access to all our services including our Helpline. Benefits include the opportunity to receive a weekly publication covering the main news stories. This enables you to keep up to date with the world around you. As a member you can receive Open Hand, a quarterly magazine which is full of news about what is going on at Deafblind UK and all sorts of interesting features.
A regular letter from our Chief Executive goes out to every member and gives the latest information about the charity and all members receive a birthday card and a Christmas card in an accessible format that you can read yourself.
We have a Case Worker who is actively maintaining a support network for individual members who do not have a Deafblind UK representative in their area. The Case Worker wiil advise you and your family on procedures which allow you to deal effectively with any problems you may encounter and will support you through the processes with information and advice.
Advice and support is also available from our Information and Carers Project worker. Our worker is building up a resource relating to deafblindness and topics relating to the work of Deafblind UK which can be accessed by deafblind people and the professionals who work with them. The Carers Project
is a link for carers, families and friends of deafblind people. It provides support, encouragement and information on carer benefits and support networks within your area.
We also run a Volunteer/Befriending scheme for members. The Volunteers Scheme offers deafblind people and their carers the chance for support and respite by providing a trained volunteer/ befriender.
