
The world's biggest half marathon, the Bupa Great North Run, celebrates its 28th anniversary in 2008 and is a point-to-point course that starts in Newcastle and finishes in South Shields. The route takes you through the heart of Newcastle and there is a fantastic atmosphere as the roads are lined with cheering supporters to encourage you onto the finish.
Today the Great North Run is recognised as a major sporting event both nationally and internationally. People from all over the world congregate in Newcastle to participate in this prestigious event and every postcode in the country is represented on the start line!!
