Communication with Deafblind People (Manual)

This qualification is designed to give learners the knowledge and skills they need to communicate with deafblind people who use English and the Deafblind Manual Alphabet.

Candidates must achieve all 3 units below for the full qualification.

Unit K202 Understanding Communication
with Deafblind People

(60 minute written assessment)

  • Key facts about deafblindness
  • Communication methods
  • Impact on mobility and access
  • Aids to successful communication


Unit T201 Communicating with Deaf and
Deafblind People (ACE)

(7 minute practical assessment)

  • Communication where preferred language is English – acquired deaf/deafblind – clear speech and lip-reading


Unit T202 Deafblind Manual

Communication and Guiding

(15 minute practical assessment)

  • Deafblind Manual – productive/receptive 1:1 conversation
  • safe guiding within a building
  • alerting of danger and guiding to safety


Course Duration
  • 5 days (4 days training + part day for practical assessments)


Costs
  • Individual (at National Centre for Deafblindness, Peterborough) £535 + CACDP exam fees £117, per person
  • Group (at your venue) £2575 (max 12 people) + CACDP exam fees £117 per person. Plus trainer’s travel, accommodation and subsistence expenses.
